Second Session a Resounding Success!
March 13, 2008The Greater Washington Board of Trade, in partnership with SHAMBAUGH, has developed this dedicated programming for female executives through a networking and professional development series. Facilitated by SHAMBAUGH senior consultants, these workshops are targeted for seasoned female executives and women on the ‘fast track’ in an organization. This series is designed to bring value through: developing a learning community to strengthen female leaders, creating a targeted pipeline that grows skill sets, and producing lasting relationships through strategic networks.
On March 13th, Lynette Demarest presented the second session in the series titled Strategic Relationships: Building and Leveraging Your Network. While women are great at making friends, they often shy away from the idea of building relationships for the purpose of achieving a particular goal. In this session, participants explored the meaning of “strategic” and used a structured approach for building a network both inside and outside their organization. Participants also learned specific techniques for asking for help and explored the “law of reciprocity”, an important concept for developing key relationships.
This session was followed by a panel of regional female executives who shared their thoughts on how strategic relationships helped them achieve their career goals and the importance of strategic relationships in their careers today.
Panelists included:
• Linda Rabbitt, Chairman & CEO, rand* construction corporation; Past Chair, Greater Washington Board of Trade
• Kate Carr, President, Cardinal Bank
• Elizabeth Lewis, Partner, Cooley Godward Kronish LLP
On April 8th, the third session in the series will address Political Savvy and Executive Presence.
